چکیده

Introduction: Emergency laparoscopic surgery in a patient with polymyositis is a challenging situation for an anaesthesiologist owing to the multisystem manifestations of the disease. There are several reports in literature which have emphasized the use of regional anaesthesia in these patients to prevent delayed recovery from anaesthesia, aspiration, arrhythmias, and cardiac failure. Case Report: We present anaesthetic management of a known case of polymyositis, confirmed by muscle biopsy having proximal muscle weakness and not on any medication, scheduled for emergency laparoscopic appendicectomy. Conclusion: Emergency laparoscopic surgeries in such patients are rendered safe under general anaesthesia by ensuring effective muscle relaxation and ventilation with the depth of anaesthesia and neuromuscular monitoring.

A randomised controlled trial investigating the analgesic efficacy of transversus abdominis plane block for adult laparoscopic appendicectomy.

INTRODUCTION We conducted a single-centre, prospective randomised clinical trial to investigate the analgesic efficacy of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block in adult patients undergoing laparoscopic appendicectomy. METHODS Patients undergoing urgent laparoscopic appendicectomy under general anaesthesia alone (control group) and general anaesthesia supplemented by TAP block (TAP intervent...

Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane blocks for laparoscopic appendicectomy in children: a prospective randomized trial.

BACKGROUND The effect of adding transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks to local anaesthetic infiltration on morphine consumption and postoperative pain in children undergoing laparoscopic appendicectomy is unknown. METHODS After random allocation, 93 children aged 7-16 were randomized to receive ultrasound-guided TAP blocks placed before surgery or not (control). All subjects had port sites...
